As many as 726 persons were detained in last two year under Public Safety Act, a legislation described as ‘lawless law’ by the Amnesty International.
In response to National Conference MLA Mubarak Gul’s question, chief minister Mehbooba Mufti according to GNS said 525 persons were detained under PSA during the year 2016 and all of them have been released. Similarly, she said, 201 persons were detained under PSA last year. Out of them, she said 124 persons have been released and 77 are still under preventive detention.
“However, it would not be feasible to disclose the particulars of the detainees, keeping in view their security and the security of their families, more so when the Government has already announced amnesty to the first time offenders/ stone pelters.”
